The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
