Authorities stated they were contacted by a individual who discovered a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
